Eli Miller is a young boy suffering from a rare disease that causes severe allergic reactions to the outdoors, forcing him to live his life in protective gear. His parents, Rose and Paul, have taken him to Dr. Isabella Horn's secluded medical facility, a large, old house that has been modernized and quarantined. Eli is initially overjoyed that the facility allows him to remove his "bubble suit", embrace his parents, and enjoy comforts previously denied to him.

His joy is short-lived, however, as he begins to experience supernatural phenomena in the house. He also begins his treatments, which are excruciatingly painful.

The specters repeatedly leave him the message lieand Eli wonders if they are trying to warn him about Horn's treatments. Eli befriends Haley, a young girl with whom he speaks through a large window in the house's first floor. She is the only person who believes his claims that the house is haunted.

She tells him none of the other patients Horn treated left the facility, implying that they died. Eli discovers the word "lie" is actually the inverted numberthe passcode to Horn's office.

When he investigates the office, he finds Horn's records of past patients, showing that all of them were killed by the third final treatment. Eli unsuccessfully tries to persuade his parents that they need to leave the facility but his father tries to drug him into unconsciousness.

Hurt and confused, Eli barricades himself in Horn's office. He finds a photograph of Horn and her assistants dressed as nuns, and a hidden passageway to an underground room with religious paraphernalia. Horn locks him inside and he experiences an allergic reaction and passes out. When he awakes, he finds he can breathe fine, and he actually has no disease. Rose, feeling guilty for deceiving Eli, goes to him. Eli pretends he's still unconscious. When she opens the gate, he knocks her unconscious with a crucifix and flees but is recaptured by Horn and his father.

His mother regains consciousness and finds a dagger in the crucifix. In a hugely profitable time for the genre, how could a major studio not figure out how to make some theatrical profit from a low-budget horror film?

And most importantly, can it possibly be even half as bad as The Cloverfield Paradox? The disastrous threequel was the last film dumped by Paramount on the streaming platform and while some were initially surprised by the decision, anyone who eventually endured the wretched thing was in full support.

But his parents Kelly Reilly and Max Martini may have found a solution. In a remote, and comically creepy, mansion, a doctor Lili Taylor is offering an expensive experimental treatment that she claims will cure him. Risking everything, the family heads to the middle of nowhere in the hope that Eli might be able to finally live a normal life. But Eli is convinced that something is wrong. Why is the treatment making him feel worse? Can he really trust the doctor? And why is he being plagued by pesky ghosts?

Rather like the wonderful, little-seen New Zealand comedy horror HouseboundEli is a haunted house film where the person being haunted is unable to leave. But are the ghosts trying to harm or help Eli? The film is scattered with a number of familiar horror sequences, from a couple of nasty dreams to some extended jump scares, but none of them really land. Performances are mostly bland although Taylor does have some fun weaponising the soft tone of her voice.

Like The Cloverfield Paradox before it, Eli is a film more suited to the small screen, where audience members can multi-task, perhaps even search for something better to watch next. Eli I Hide Spoilers. Eli is a pretty decent movie for those who are interested in viewing a long practiced art form from a different perspective. Without providing spoilers, it has the ingredients viewers would require for a watchable movie experience. The main character considers his life to be horrible, due to being unable to enjoy life like everyone else.

eli 2019

He finds himself living his existence like bacteria in a Petri dish. For those who remember, he is much like bubble boy, without the comedic adventure. However, after arriving at a "Clean House", where a certain doctor is supposed to be able to cure him of his physiological affliction, Eli soon finds himself experiencing a more supernatural level of drama.

The story continues with Eli discovering more than he was expecting of the Doctor by his interaction with a visitor outside the house. In addition, the therapy he receives appears to be doing little to alleviate his condition.

And finally, young Eli learns that his parents were also hiding some things from him. The movie was not fast paced, but it wasn't too slow either. I actually enjoyed the twist because it was something I hadn't expected from the information we were provided. Was this review helpful?

Sign in to vote. This was not a bad movie at all and some of the negative reviews on here are way off mark. It's not a scary movie, in my opinion, unless you scare easily but it is interetsting and entertaining.

I like twists and this one had a decent one. If you like TV Shows like Supernatural or others like it then you will probably enjoy this movie. Kenny 18 October I watched this not knowing anything about it beforehand. It started a little slow, but got creepier as it progressed. Actually, abruptly is an understatement. The twist completely changed the tone of the entire movie, even the genre.

At first I wasn't sure I liked the twist but by the end of the movie I was digging it.

eli 2019

Overall, there the film doesn't break much new ground, but it is a solid horror film with decent acting and nice cinematography. I'm curious to hear what others thought of this. I thought it was a pretty decent movie. MetalNickA 19 October I saw the trailer on Netflix about 2 weeks before it came out, and thought it seemed cool. A horror movie about a kid with some "strange illness" seeking unorthodox treatment, but the place is haunted and he gets terrorized by ghosts.

At least that's what you're led to believe.

ELI (2019) Explained

I didn't think it was slow, I felt the pace was appropriate. It doesn't take long before all the freaky stuff happens. There are some jumps that are obnoxiously loud. And then there's that weird girl outside who is oddly low-key obsessed with him. The last like 10 minutes of the movie is when it hits the fan, and you find out what's actually going on.

And it's not what you think, at all. Spoiler: he isn't sick, and at first it appears he is possessed and the final stage of his "treatment" appears to be an exorcism.
